Facebook is getting ready to roll out a social media-based advertising program that will allow its advertisers to target Facebook users based on a user’s political affiliation.
The program, dubbed “Share This,” is set to launch in the U.S. in the fall, and is being described as a first for Facebook.
Facebook said the program would allow companies to target ads based on how their users share content.
Facebook will work with several ad agencies to help advertisers get their messages across.
“The Share This platform enables advertisers to connect with a new audience of Facebook users that are interested in social issues and want to share their stories and experiences,” Facebook said in a statement.
“By partnering with these leading social organizations, advertisers can reach a much broader and more targeted audience than ever before.”
The social media platform said it would make it easy for advertisers to reach users based not only on their political affiliations, but also their interests and values.
The company said it had spent $40 million on “share this” ads in 2016, and that it plans to spend another $100 million in 2017 and 2018.
Facebook says it has already spent more than $4 billion on social media advertising in the United States this year, but that the share this program will help advertisers reach a wider audience.
The social networking platform has been trying to reach the young and diverse audience that Facebook is trying to target with its advertising campaigns.
Facebook recently launched its new “Share” app to allow users to post to Facebook content in real time, and said it plans more sharing on the platform to allow more users to be exposed to advertising on Facebook.
