‘The president needs to be held accountable’ for Obama’s immigration policies

President Donald Trump has used his executive orders to restrict entry of refugees and immigrants from six Muslim-majority countries and suspended a program that helps immigrants integrate.
Trump also has suspended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which gives immigrants who came to the U.S. before age 16 legal status.
“The president should be held responsible for his policies,” Trump said during a Monday rally in Pensacola, Fla.
“You have to be able to make the case for why you need the protection.
We have to have the protection of the Constitution.”
The president is seeking to limit the number of refugees allowed into the U, a program he announced on March 6.
The president also is seeking a ban on all Syrian refugees and the return of all illegal immigrants who have been in the U for two years or more.
Trump has argued that refugees are a burden to the country, and that they contribute to crime and gang activity.
In a speech in January, Trump said: “They’re coming here in numbers that nobody even thought we would have.
And when they’re here, we don’t know who they are, where they come from, where their parents are, what their intentions are.
I’m not going to say where they’re coming from, but they’re not going anywhere.”
He has repeatedly suggested that they are fleeing the war in Syria, though the United Nations and other countries have said that more than two million Syrians have fled to neighboring countries.
The administration has argued in recent weeks that the refugee program is not a major security threat, and Trump has called for a moratorium on refugee admissions from countries including Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Iran and Syria.
The White House has defended the policies, arguing that the president has a moral duty to keep Americans safe.
“He’s got to have a strong national security rationale,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during an interview on ABC News Sunday.
“It is very clear the president is not being held to account.”
