Calgary’s social media network’s Facebook will be open to all users

Calgary, Alberta (AP) Facebook will allow all users on the Calgary-based social media site to access its community pages on Monday, the company said.
Facebook is now the only major social media platform that allows users to post their posts directly to Facebook and has long faced criticism over its policies on privacy and censorship.
Facebook has faced calls to crack down on extremist content and has drawn complaints from conservatives who say the company has a chilling effect on free speech.
Facebook users will be able to see posts and conversations about any topic on the site, including politics, religion and social issues.
But users won’t be able add posts to their news feed or see content from Facebook’s other platforms.
The move comes as Facebook is grappling with its fallout from revelations by a U.S. government investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.K. election that included posting propaganda content to Facebook.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said the company’s policies are meant to help prevent misinformation and abuse.
