Israeli media outlet The Jerusalem Report published an opinion piece Sunday that reported that a senior Israeli official claimed that a Palestinian terrorist group, Hamas, has been financing Hamas’ activities by supplying them with “rocket launchers and other equipment.”
According to the article, the official said that Israeli officials have determined that Hamas has “fabricated rockets” to carry out attacks on Israeli cities.
The article did not specify whether the official was in the Prime Minister’s Office or Defense Ministry, but he did state that “Hamas is funding the operation of the terror group with its military hardware.”
In his comments, the senior Israeli intelligence official claimed “HASIDI ISRAEL has been receiving a steady stream of rockets and other weapons from the terrorist group.”
The article also claimed that “Israel has been investigating a group of people, who claim to be Hamas leaders, who have been selling rocket parts for over a year.”
“This is a continuation of the Palestinian terrorist groups operations,” the official added.
Hamas denied any role in the rocket sale, claiming that the group “is not connected to the sale of rocket parts.”
The Palestinian Authority (PA) is in charge of the security and internal affairs in the West Bank.
The Palestinian official, who did not have access to a formal position, was reportedly speaking about the ongoing investigation into the sale and purchase of rockets from Hamas.
Israel has arrested more than 50 Palestinians since the beginning of the year on terrorism-related charges.
