Why Facebook’s new tool for tracking fake news could save the internet

Facebook has rolled out a new feature to track and flag fake news stories that people click on in its news feed.
According to the site, it’s called Facebook Trending Topics and it will allow users to “find and follow newsworthy topics that interest you and share it with your friends.”
Trending topics are what Facebook calls “stories that have recently appeared in Facebook News Feed, and are of interest to our community.”
Facebook also launched a new Facebook Trended Topics section in the News Feed section for news that appears to be false, misleading or sensationalized.
In other words, fake news, conspiracy theories, and other stories that Facebook sees as potentially harmful.
Facebook Trender Topics also lets users see when a story has been shared and when it has been removed from Facebook’s News Feed.
Facebook has also launched new tools to track news stories across Facebook News Timeline and News Feed in a new tab that is currently only accessible via the new Trending Topic tool.
The new tool will also help Facebook identify stories that have been shared, and it can be used to flag them for removal from Facebook.
Trending topic has also been added to the News Stories section of Facebook News, a separate section where Facebook also publishes news stories.
Facebook’s Trending Features and News Stories tabs have been added since November, so this new feature is just the beginning of what the company is working on to help Facebook users get to the bottom of the news cycle.
