‘We’re still waiting on the results’: Rockstar CEO on the importance of community for his game company

Rockstar’s CEO Phil Spencer is not convinced that social entrepreneurship will be the game’s primary driver for success, and his words are as blunt as ever.
Speaking to journalists at the launch of Rockstar Games’ The Division: Season Pass, he acknowledged that Rockstar has been focused on creating a social-driven world, rather than simply a video game, but he also emphasised that social games have been successful in the past.
He spoke about how Rockstar had already created social-based games like Superhot, which is also available on Steam, and it was the success of these games that had spurred the studio into exploring a more holistic approach to social gaming.
“In the past we had games like Hotline Miami, we had Superhot,” he said.
“These games weren’t designed to be a social game.
They were designed to do a lot of different things, but we knew they weren’t going to be social games.
We also knew that a lot more people were going to want to be playing these games, and we knew we were going have to make them a social experience as well.”
The reason why we’re doing this is that, if we just do social games, there’s not going to come a point where we’re going to make these games social games anymore.
“It’s really not possible for Rockstar to just be a game, because we need to be an entire company.”
Social games, I think, have a really big impact on the way that people interact with each other.
It has huge social impact, and that’s why Rockstar is investing in a lot into it.
“Rockstar Games has already shown the company’s commitment to social games through The Division, which will launch on March 6.”
This is a game that is so much about community, and the way we can make that a reality is with a community.
You know, it’s about being able to create a sense of community around the game,” he explained.”
And that is what we are doing with The Division.
“If we could create a community in a way that the game itself is built on, it will create a very strong community around that game.”
Social gaming is growing in popularity as a result of the rise of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
The success of such games has helped Rockstar with the development of new social titles, such as The Division and The Banner Saga.
Spencer believes social gaming will also be a key driver for Rockstarters future success.
“I think we are going to see social gaming being a core part of Rockstiers business,” he stressed.
“We are going a long way towards social gaming becoming a mainstream thing, but the real question is, how do we make it a mainstream game?”
We’re not there yet, but I think we will see social games becoming a core element of our business.
We’re not even there yet.”RTE contacted Rockstar for a response to Spencer’s comments, but it did not respond at the time of publication.
Rockstar also has a number of games on the PS4 and Xbox One, and has promised to bring these to PlayStation consoles as well as PlayStation VR, which was announced last year.
